[Limited] #PichaPlatters Middle Eastern Desserts

PichaEats is a catering social enterprise that supports the rebuilding of refugee communities living here in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Its entire menu features authentic, traditional recipes cooked in the homes of refugee chefs from Syria, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and more. We've been such huge fans of these truly delicious food since its PichaProject days, which is why we're so thrilled to officially partner with this amazing team to release two limited edition platter boxes!

One of which is a dessert platter inspired by Middle Eastern fruits and sweets. We know this may not be familiar flavours to many so let's dive into the three traditional treats lovingly made at the PichaEats' kitchens.

Traditional Baklava

Baklava are rich, honey-sweet bite-sized dessert pastries from the Middle East.

It's popularly known as a Turkish treat though it's traditionally enjoyed in other countries too. It's made of layers of filo filled with chopped nuts. Sticky, flaky, and nutty, can it get any more addictive? The process of making these morsels of joy is incredibly tedious - as you might have seen in viral videos on social media - which makes it a truly precious treat to be savoured.

Mahmoul Date Cookies

Throw out the conventional idea of cookies and embrace these dainty Arabic delicacies! Also known as ma'amoul, these plump round cookies features a shortbread-like pastry stuffed with chewy date filling. You'd be surprised to find that it isn't as sweet as you'd imagine it to be! Which makes it dangerously unputdownable, to be honest. You've been warned.

Persian Love Cakes

This dreamy dessert sure has a name that belongs to the fairy tale world. Legend has it that once upon a time, a beautiful woman in love with a Persian prince baked this cake enchanted with magical powers to charm him into falling for her. We can't tell how true that story is, but one thing's for sure - we're absolutely enchanted with this exotic, aromatic cake.

Its soft delicate texture (baked without wheat flour!) yields an intoxicating fragrance of roses, cardamom, and almond. Topped with crushed pistachios and dried rose petals, it's as delicious as it is pretty! 💖
